Mee Maw's Place

Mee_Maw

This blog is for our "Mee Maw", Mildred Matthews. Born on March 4, 1908, she is the daughter of a Confederate Veteran, the mother of four sons, grandmother of 13, and great-grandmother of almost 40. I, her oldest grandson Richard, have posted updates about her condition, her death, and her funeral on July 23, 2006. I love you, Mee Maw.

Improving a Bit

Mee Maw seems to be improving, both physically and mentally. Yesterday my sister Lynette and her husband Donald visited her. As they turned to go down the hall to her room, they ran into her with her walker making her way to the dining area for lunch! She has not been going to meals lately, so it was a welcomed surprise to find her exercising.

My mother went today and found her lying in bed. But the bed was made up very neatly. Mee Maw admitted to doing it herself, which is another good thing.

There are still occasional memory lapses, but we all have those, don't we? And at 98 years of age, she has a lot of memories that she can forget.

My wife Lori visited yesterday as well and answered Mee Maw's question about the children by telling her that they were swimming. "Really? Where?" asked Mee Maw. "At their grandparents' pool," answered Lori. "Why, I didn't know that they had a pool in their yard!" exclaimed Mee Maw.

There has been a pool in my parent's yard since I was a kid over 30 years ago. And Mee Maw lived next door, and I remember her swimming with us a few times. So we guess she just forgot.

One thing she has never forgotten is that she is a grandmother. 48 years ago today she became a grandmother for the 1st time. And I'm to "blame". She always reminds me that I was her first.

I sure wish that she could be around for at least 48 more.
